Generac To Acquire Germany's Motortech

Generac Holdings Inc., the Waukesha,Wis.-based manufacturer of power generation equipment announced it has signedan agreement to acquire the assets of Germany’s Motortech Holding GmbH &Co. KG. The transaction, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to closein the first quarter of 2017. No financial details were provided.

Founded in 1988 and headquartered inCelle, Germany, Motortech is a manufacturer of gaseous-engine control systemsand accessories. The company’s gaseous-fuel subsystems include knock detection,mixers, throttles and various controls, which are sold to European gas enginemanufacturers and to the aftermarket. Motortech employs more than 250 people atits German headquarters, a manufacturing plant in Poland and sales officeslocated in the U.S. and China.

“By combining resources and technology,Generac and Motortech will lead the industry in innovative, spark-ignitedengine generator offerings,” said Patrick Forsythe, executive vice president ofGlobal Engineering at Generac.  “This acquisition allows Generac to expandits global market for gaseous products beyond standby generators and it alignswith our strategy of gas power generation leadership.  It will significantlyexpand our worldwide spark-ignited engine capabilities, complementing theinternational growth Generac has experienced.”

Florian Virchow, CEO of Motortech, said,“The integration into Generac will create broader product-application marketsglobally, and is expected to bring meaningful opportunities to improve ourproduct costs and ultimately the value we bring to our customers.”

The Virchow familyand Motortech’s current management team will continue to lead the Motortechbusiness after the acquisition is complete, Generac said
